I am trying to use following expression
\begin{align}
thetaw\ddot{\varphi}(t)=thetaw\dot\upsilon(t) = \cancelto{0}{Mm} - M_R
\end{align}
but unfortunately the arrow is not pointing to zero.

Update your cancel package or stop using pict2e.
pict2e breaks/changes some things; cancel ver 2.2
contains a work-around.
